What is pteris cretica?

Pteris cretica, commonly known as the Cretan brake fern, is a species of fern in the Pteridaceae family. It is native to Europe, northern Africa, and western Asia.

Pteris cretica has distinctive fronds that are grey-green in color and usually have a bipinnate leaf structure, with small, triangular leaflets arranged in rows on either side of the stem. The fronds can grow up to 50-60 cm in length and are held upright on wiry black stems.

This fern is a popular houseplant and is often grown in hanging baskets or as a potted plant. It thrives in bright, indirect light and prefers moist, well-draining soil. Pteris cretica is relatively easy to care for and can tolerate a range of humidity levels.

In its natural habitat, Pteris cretica can be found growing in rocky areas, forests, and along streams and rivers. It is considered an invasive species in some regions due to its ability to spread rapidly and outcompete native vegetation.
